Here is what our patients say about TMS therapy.

Why Does the TMS “Dip” Occur?
A dip is a temporary worsening of symptoms and can feel frustrating for patients who had expected to only feel positive results from treatment. Why does this dip happen? And how common is it? TMS uses magnetic waves to stimulate the electrical activity of neurons nerve cells in the brain that are either underactive or inactive. TMS is administered using a special coil that is carefully positioned over a specific part of the head. The position of the coil ensures that the magnetic pulses target a specific region of the brain known to be associated with depression the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, or DLPFC.
TMS Therapy Process
Two and a half years ago, I lost my brother to suicide. I was going through the grief process which is very, very hard, but then the grief process turned into depression which took on a life of its own. This last time my depression was so bad, and I was so low, I was ready to take my own life. Then I had gotten a referral to Dr. Drobnick and he suggested I start with TMS. And believe it or not, after 3 treatments, I felt better.
My medications were no longer working, and I was desperate to find another solution. Going into my first treatment, the internet and my doctor provided expectations such as the procedure, treatment effectiveness, reaction times and side effects. How it works? The TMS device contains a magnetic coil that pulsates to stimulate neurons in the region of the brain associated with depression. Because the treatment involves magnets, you cannot wear any metal jewelry, hair clips, etc. Discuss any metal implants in your head with a doctor — they will advise if you are a candidate based on the location of the implant. What to expect? The magnetic pulses are administered on the left side of the head towards the front. During the first session, the doctor performed a mapping exercise to position the magnetic pulse correctly. The machine issues a single tap while the doctor watches for a finger twitch from the right hand.
